HISTORIC HAILE HOMESTEAD MEMBERSHIP

One important way you can help the Historic Haile Homestead is by becoming a member. The Historic Haile Homestead, Inc. is the 501c3 not-for-profit organization supporting the preservation, interpretation and operation of the Historic Haile Homestead at Kanapaha Plantation in Gainesville, Florida. Without the support of our members, we cannot continue to pay operating expenses to keep the Homestead open to the public.

MEMBERSHIP LEVELS AND MEMBER BENEFITS

 

KANAPAHA PARTNER: $20 - $99 
Thomas Evans Haile named his plantation “Kanapaha,” which is Indian for “small thatched houses.” Kanapaha Partners will receive the Historic Haile Homestead's quarterly newsletter, recognition on a poster displayed at the Homestead, notice of special events and $1 off tours for the member and guests accompanying the member. 

 

CRAFTSMEN'S GUILD: $100 - $249 
Dedicated to the enslaved craftsmen who built the Historic Haile Homestead. Members of the Craftsmen's Guild will receive the Historic Haile Homestead's quarterly newsletter, recognition on a poster displayed at the Homestead, notice of special events, $1 off tours for the member and guests accompanying the member, and two Gift Certificates for tours at the Homestead (valid for one membership year).

 

CAMDEN BENEFACTORS SOCIETY: $250 - $499 
Having relocated here from South Carolina, the Hailes and Chesnuts maintained close ties with their Camden families. Members of the Camden Benefactors Society will receive the Historic Haile Homestead's quarterly newsletter, recognition on a poster displayed at the Homestead, notice of special events, two Gift Certificates for tours at the Homestead (valid for one membership year) and free tours for the membership year for the member and one guest accompanying the member.

 

BENNET'S CIRCLE OF FRIENDS: $500 - $999 
In honor of Bennet Kelley, once enslaved then later employed by the Hailes, who lived in a cabin in back of the Homestead. Bennet was so dearly l oved by the Haile family that he was buried in the family plot when he died in 1933. Members of Bennet's Circle of Friends will receive the Historic Haile Homestead's quarterly newsletter, recognition on a poster displayed at the Homestead, notice of special events, two Gift Certificates for tours at the Homestead (valid for one membership year), and free tours for the membership year for the member and up to three guests accompanying the member. 

 

HAILE HERITAGE COUNCIL: $1,000 and up 
For those committed to the continued preservation and operation of the Historic Haile Homestead so that others may come to know this truly unique historic treasure. Members of the Haile Heritage Council will receive the Historic Haile Homestead's quarterly newsletter, recognition on a special Haile Heritage Council plaque displayed at the Homestead, notice of special events, four gift certificates for tours at the Homestead (valid for one membership year), and free tours for the membership year for the member and any guests (no limit) accompanying the member.

 

BECOME A DOCENT

Docents are volunteer historical interpreters. Docents are required to attend three intensive training sessions attend quarterly meetings and commit to providing tours at the Historic Haile Homestead a minimum of one Saturday or Sunday afternoon per month. Docents are also expected to help out at special events held at the Homestead. Every docent is required to be a member of Historic Haile Homestead, Inc. (see above for membership levels)  Being a docent at this unique historic treasure is a very rewarding experience. Many docents even dress in Victorian costumes, especially at special events. We are also recruiting docents to man the new Allen & Ethel Graham Visitors Center and Museum. Visitors Center docents remain in the Visitors Center during the 4-hour shift. They take admission fees and make sales, answer questions, answer phones, etc. If you are interested in becoming a docent at the Historic Haile Homestead, contact Historic Haile Homestead, Inc.

 

ONGOING DOCENT TRAINING
Ongoing docent training will be held throughout the year. There are three required training sessions (dates TBA depending on schedules of participants). Docents are required to become members of the Historic Haile Homestead, be on duty for tours a minimum of one day per month, attend quarterly docent meetings and serve at special fundraising events. If you are interested in becoming a docent, register below. We will contact you when we have enough people to start new classes.
